Expat Life Update During Covid-19 ?

Being alone since March in an apartment on a remote cove in Indonesia’s Riau Islands has been a blessing and a curse. And in the past couple of weeks the effects of isolation had really started to show. I didn’t get out of bed for a couple of days, I didn’t want to see other humans, and all the good work I had done on my diet was reversed as I stopped caring about what I ate and drank. ⁣

I’m snapped out of it now, thankfully. I schedule video chats with friends and family again. I’ve gone cold turkey with the booze, which kick-started the diet again. And I’m back to doing proactive biz dev to try and find new clients.⁣

…I also know I’ve been lucky. No friend or family member has had the virus, which is amazing because I have some family in the U.S. who still carry on like there isn’t a global pandemic and continue to go on holiday and throw parties.⁣

But life is definitely harder without friends and family. I’ve had one hug since March. That’s a long time without human contact! ⁣

This view is what has been the biggest gift and kept my spirits relatively intact (well, past couple weeks aside). I don’t look into any neighbours or a fence. I have a beautiful, natural landscape to gaze upon, no matter which direction I look. ⁣

Hopefully (fingers crossed!!) I’m only 5 more weeks away from being back with friends and surrounded by humans. My business visa is in progress in Malaysia and I should be moved back to KL in early October ???⁣

If you’re in isolation and want to share how you’re coping, I’d love to hear it.⁣

Please stay safe, happy and healthy friends. ⁣

At 21 I left uni, jumped into my Jeep Wrangler, and drove from my native California to live an adventure in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. I've explored 37 countries on 4 continents, residing in 8 of them (currently Indonesia's Riau Islands is my home). I even have a private pilot's license and was shot at once by bandits!
